# (Talk 1) Rosana de Oliveira Gomes: ATHENA Art Assistant - Women & AI Creations

Summary: The world of arts is still highly male-dominated. Although half of the art students are women, still close to 90% of artwork promoted in exhibitions are from white male artists. The ATHENA Art Assistant is an open source initiative created during the SAAI Hackathon to address the women representation problem in arts. This assistant has multiple AI-driven functionalities, all fed with data exclusively from the artwork of female artists. The prototype has a recommendation system feature that recommends and TV shows movies from women directors and screenwriters, to promote their work.

About Rosana

Rosana is a PhD student in Astrophysics currently dedicating her career to technology for social impact. She is very passionate about working with AI for social good and has experience working in partnership with nonprofit organizations and impact startups. Among many domains, Rosana's key experience is on building applications for disaster management, renewable energies, sustainability, safety and mobility. Rosana’s other great passion is empowering women and young students into the world of AI. In her free time, she engages in social impact projects together with the AI Wonder Girls team and also offers advice on getting into AI or changing careers, both through mentoring calls and by the Recommendation of the Week series, about AI for good and career change on LinkedIn.

# (Talk 2) Oluwatoyin Yetunde Sanni: Hyper parameter tuning with Deep learning

Summary: Machine learning models can be extremely powerful. However, they are notoriously hard to optimize for any given problem. There are just too many variables that we could change. Some include the right dense unit, CNN layers, number of filters or kernel size, learning rate and many more.
Can we automate a search that can perfectly do this for us? We will explore two libraries that can help us do this.

About Oluwatoyin

Oluwatoyin Sanni is currently a researcher at the University of Lincoln where she’s working on research solutions that combine medical robotics, robot learning and computer vision. She holds a BSc in computer science and an MSc in AI and Robotics. Prior to her master's studies, she worked as a software engineer/technical team lead at Andela. In her spare time, she mentors and volunteers with various organizations like AfricaCodeWeek, frauenloop, etc. Of recent, she has supported CodeYourFuture, an organization that set up weekend coding classes for refugees in Italy, the Uk and other parts of Europe. Her fundamental core passion does not stop at the idea of women in tech, it dives deeper in advocating non-mediocrity, thereby propelling more women into long term leadership positions. Her favourite quote is: "Let your skills speak louder than your gender".

PyData is a community for developers and users of open source data tools. PyData is an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the United States. The PyData Code of Conduct governs this meetup.
