PyData Mallorca is proud to announce our 9th meetup, sponsored by OmniAccess (http://www.omniaccess.com).

What is PyData? PyData is a group for users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. We gather to discuss how best to apply Python tools, as well as those using R and Julia, to meet the evolving challenges in data management, processing, analytics, and visualization.

Location

The 9th meetup will be held at the Auditorium of Parc Bit (http://www.parcbit.es/), Parc Balear d'Innovació Tecnològica. Thanks to Parc Bit (http://www.parcbit.es/) for letting us use the Auditorium!

You can find a complete map of Parc Bit (http://www.parcbit.es/) at:

Satellite networks for maritime ecosystems: what happens with the data?, Jordi Ferrer (https://es.linkedin.com/in/jordiferrerriera) (Product Manager at OmniAccess (http://www.omniaccess.com))

OmniAccess is a world-leading VSAT & Marine network solutions provider based in Palma de Mallorca, with worldwide infrastructure - distributed data centres and teleports in several countries. We are focused on high-end customers such as luxurious yachts (+50m), cruise lines and research vessels (e.g. Antarctica). We have very specific customers with demanding requirements, which makes us push technological boundaries: first ones in the world to offer 200Mbps per remote Sat. modem (May 2016), first ones offering flexible VSAT services (on-demand provisioning), etc. While most of the people does not know about satellite, networking, and marine networks, we are an ISP (such as Telefonica, Orange, etc.) with very specific requirements. We have WiMax infrastructure over Europe. Apart from VSAT, satellite, huge antennas, vessels, we have a development department, composed of highly-skilled engineers, developers, and coffee- and data-lovers, responsible for all the development of our network management solutions and data processing.

Technological innovations here are our every-day's-bread! The development department deals with our specific products, and all our internal tools, including those devoted to network resource provisioning... (which includes Teras of historical data about consumption, bandwidth usage, customer positions, etc, etc.). Forecasting with all the data is being utilized nowadays twofold: (i) to offer customized offers to our customers in terms of products (flexible VSAT plans); and (ii) to predict bandwidth requirements in the different areas in the world per season, so we can easily perform our network planning process.

8:00pm - Lightning, Kung-fu Pandas and PyFail talks (Spanish)

• Lightning talk 1: Text processing for dummies, Eulàlia Veny (https://www.linkedin.com/in/eulaliaveny) (Freelance computational linguist and PyData Mallorca organizer).

• Lightning talk 2: First steps with R, Jordi Contestí (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jcontesti) (Data Analyst at habitissimo (https://www.habitissimo.es) and PyData Mallorca organizer).
