15th PyData Mallorca meetup

PyData Mallorca is proud to announce the 15th meetup, sponsored by GSBIT (http://www.gsbit.org)!

What is PyData? PyData is a group for users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. We gather to discuss best practices, new approaches, and emerging technologies for data management, processing, analytics, and visualization. We approach data science using many languages, including (but not limited to) Python, Julia, and R.

Métodos Bayesianos para el análisis de datos, Irene García Mosquera (Profesor visitante del área de Estadística del Dpto. de Matemáticas e Informáticas de la Universidad de las Islas Baleares)

La estadística bayesiana sigue siendo incomprendida y poco utilizada por muchos analistas de datos que se han volcado al “machine learning” sin tener presente que éste es sólo una forma de resolver problemas del mundo real. En la mayoría de los casos se han dejado de lado las bases matemáticas y estadísticas que respaldan los modelos y que resultan esenciales para trabajar en problemas analíticos complejos, independientemente del tamaño de los datos.

En esta charla te presentaremos la filosofía del enfoque bayesiano que, en resumen, combina evidencias subjetivamente acumuladas con la información objetiva de los datos. Discutiremos cómo se compara con el enfoque frecuentista/clásico de la estadística y las aplicaciones potenciales en ciencia de datos.

The Machine Learning Bazaar, Carles Sala Cladellas (Pythia CEO, DAI-Lab MIT Researcher and PyData Mallorca Organizer)

As machine learning libraries proliferate, data scientists struggle to find or create end-to-end pipelines for machine learning tasks. This process often involves time-consuming tasks like learning several new libraries APIs, incorporating blocks from other libraries, understanding the many hyperparameters in play and, finally, tuning those parameters for an accurate pipeline.

In order to solve this, MLBlocks provides an easy-to-use API for constructing pipelines from a series of primitives by, first, abstracting glue code and streamlining the storage and transfer of data between primitives and, second, providing access to the resulting pipeline's tunable hyperparameters.
