What is PyData?
PyData is an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organisation in the United States. PyData provides a forum for the international community of users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. The global PyData network promotes discussion of best practices, new approaches, and emerging technologies for data management, processing, analytics, and visualisation. PyData communities approach data science using many languages, including (but not limited to) Python, Julia, and R.

The PyData Code of Conduct governs this meetup. (http://pydata.org/code-of-conduct.html) To discuss any issues or concerns relating to the code of conduct or the behavior of anyone at a PyData meetup, please contact NumFOCUS Executive Director Rachel Kerestes (rachel@numfocus.org) or the group organiser.

    Main Talks
1️⃣ Astronomers have too many images. What they really want is time series - Zac Irving
To study how celestial objects vary over time, astronomers need time series (measurements of an object's brightness over time). However, telescopes don't produce time series; they produce images. Astronomers therefore need software to reduce their telescope's images into time series. Unfortunately, this software exists in "pieces" with various open-source projects like photutils or source-extractor providing pieces of the image-to-time-series puzzle, but ultimately leaving gaps for astronomers to overcome. As such, it has typically up to telescope operators to write full reduction pipelines for their telescopes; this has resulted in rigid pipelines that cannot easily be applied to data from other telescopes.
