The ABCs of Julia

Details
We are pleased to welcome Jim Davidson to discuss his adventures with Julia.
Julia reached stable version 1.0.0 in August 2018 after a long gestation period going back to 2009. Jim Davidson will relate his experience with Julia since downloading it September 4, 2018.
Jim Davidson, an environmental statistician involved with computational statistics related to the clean-up of US DOE sites, has recently moved to Spokane Valley. Jim has been involved with Monte Carlo simulations for over 20 years using a variety of languages such as Fortran, Matlab, C#, and Python.
Jim is very impressed with the potential of Julia as a language as readable as Python and nearly as fast as Fortran or C.
He will present:
(1) An informal overview of his experience with the language,
(2) A somewhat more formal introduction to the language itself,
(3) And optionally, for those interested in staying, suggestions for a language for kids, called Julie, which is focused on the easy, familiar parts of Julia.
