Digital typesetting is the process of generating documents for visual consumption by humans and machines. Several technical solutions exist from Microsoft Word to LaTeχ. In this talk Lukas Prokop gives an overview about current approaches and his aspirations.

The talk covers markup languages, data serialization format, media formats, lexing & parsing, hyphenation & justification, writing systems & languages and output formats like PDF and EPUB.

The amount of Python is somewhat limited as many of the algorithms and approaches are language-independent anyways, so this talk should be accessible to a even wider audience than usual with our Meetup.

Meeting location: We will be in the restaurant Krebsenkeller at Sackstraße 12, despite Google Maps referring to it as "Minihotel".
