ABOUT SPEAKERS
Hi, I’m Isabela (she/her), UX/UI designer officially and a professional question-asker by self-proclamation. I also work at Quansight Labs and spend most of my time in open source communities like JupyterLab and Spyder. Accessibility, community, and supporting new and underrepresented people are a few of the things that matter to me.

ABOUT TALK
Do you want to make a contribution to an open-source project but not sure where to start? Do you want to make the internet a more accessible place? Learn to do all this and more in this workshop!
We will discuss how blind and visually impaired people use the internet, what alt-text is and why it is important, and how and why to make open-source projects accessible. We will also learn how to make alt-text for tech documentation, with a focus on alt-text in the scientific Python ecosystem. And by the end of this workshop, you’ll have made a contribution to an open-source project using GitHub!
