Web Scraping in Python

Sam Portillo, one of our organizers, and long-time PyRVA member Brian Cohan will be giving a talk on web scraping in Python.
Sam is a Data Engineer on an event aggregation project that acquires all data via web scraping in Python. The talk will be focused primarily on the Python package BeautifulSoup, but will acknowledge other scraping methods as well.
Brian is a Fire Protection Engineer that uses Python to automate parts of his job. He also has a terrific reputation on StackOverflow and an interest in things related to the web with Python.
The talk will provide an in-depth background on web scraping, and guidance for real-world applications involving web scraping projects that any Python programmer can do.
Computers are not required to follow along with this lecture, all of the slides and code will be available on GitHub after the presentation. However, feel free to bring it so you can follow along with the code we run!
