This group is for anyone interested in downhill skiing, cross country skiing, social outings, hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, tours of local businesses or facilities. Perhaps you used to be very active in various outdoor activities and then life got in the way. Perhaps now your retired or an empty nest household. You are ready to get involved again but don't know where to start. We invite you to join us. We are primarily a 50's plus club so our activities are geared to that age group. However, our club is an established club open to all ages and all skills levels. We invite you to check us out.
We do provide a monthly newsletter (via email) to all new club members. We try to keep our club dues affordable so everyone can participate for a reasonable fee. Our annual membership is $10 for a single and $15 for a family. Our membership year runs May-May. We do require you become a member to participate in club sponsored events, primarily for liability purposes. If you wish to receive the newsletter but haven't decided if you wish to because a club member yet, please send me an email and we will add you to our temporary mailing list. Our newsletter contains all of the current information with detailed descriptions of upcoming events and trips.
Becoming a club member provides some great advantages to skiers in particular. We belong to two regional organizations. The first is CMSC (Chicago Metropolitan Ski Council). This council consists of a significant number of Ski clubs in the region. Being a member of this council gives us visibility to all the trips that other clubs have scheduled. Any of our members may then go on any of the other clubs trips. Although it usually requires you join their club to go with them. We have done this in the past and it has worked out great for both clubs. The other organization is called SKI (Southern Illinois Ski Council). This council consists of 5 area clubs. They usually schedule one trip a year. They strive very hard to provide inclusion and fun trips. As a member of our club you automatically become a member of this council for no additional fee. By our club belonging to both of these organizations our club members have access to National and International ski trips. They also provide local Midwest ski opportunities like Chestnut, etc. We normally coordinate a couple of ski trips a year. Many go to Colorado but we have also gone to other destinations.
More details are available about these trips and activities is available in our monthly newsletter.
Although our history is about skiing, we understand that our members desire other activities also. So we provide local activities during the Spring, Summer & Fall months as well. We have scheduled dinners at local pubs, Bike Rides, Canoe/Kayak trips, club picnic's, Hiking, Wine outing's in the past and are continually looking for new and fun activities.
Club meetings are held from September through March. We meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at Granite City in Davenport.
Please feel free to offer suggestions on how to improve our club or this meetup site.
