Quakers, Sexuality and Gender

Interested in a faith that welcomes LGBTQIA+ people?
Equality is a core value of the Quaker way. Women have been an integral part of Quakerism since its earliest days, over 350 years ago. In 1963, the Quaker publication of “Towards a Quaker View of Sex (http://exhibits.lgbtran.org/exhibits/show/towards-a-quaker-view-of-sex)” was the first report by a religious body that espoused a positive understanding of homosexuality. In 2009 Quakers actively campaigned for same sex marriage (http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/gay-marriage-the-struggle-for-equal-rights-is-a-quaker-one-too-8481736.html).
Why not help us make the world a better place for all? Join us to find out what it is about Quakers that makes us such a comfortable spiritual home for LGBTQIA+ people?
(Note: LGBTQIA = Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual.)
Quakers. Simple. Radical. Contemporary.
Our evening starts at 6.30, for light refreshments and chat.
There will be 6-minute presentations from three speakers, not giving an ‘official Quaker view’ since there is none, but Quakers each speaking from their own experience. There will also be small discussion groups; a general discussion time and an opportunity to experience a Quaker meeting for worship. The formal session ends at 9, but you can stay and chat until 9.30.
