Thank you so much for stepping up and taking over the role of organizer of Que-tal. A huge "gracias" also to Emily who was an extraordinary organizer. I am a regular and I would not mind stepping up a bit but my fear is that my Spanish just is not fluent enough. (Of course, another fear is having too much on my plate already.) You write that organizing a meetup "does not require much skill" but it seems to me that in order to make a meetup meaningful there has to be at least one person whose Spanish is really good. Although there are moments of optimism when I feel that I am just on the cusp, there are other moments when a word in
Spanish just does not come to me and I feel like a lousy beginner. I wanted to share these feelings with you, Dan, and the group to put a face on those who apparently are just "along for the ride", but often have their valid reasons why they are hesitating to step up. The Saturday meetings are important to me and I am committed to attending them, but I cannot be the Spanish speaker others are leaning on. I am also curious if other members consider Café Fixx to be a perfect meeting place, as I consider it to be a bit remote.
Just my two cents...

Subject: [Que-tal-Milwaukee-Spanish-Language-Meet-Up] Moving on without Emily
As we are aware, Emily has decided to step down as leader of Que Tal. We all owe her a THANK YOU for a job well done over the past 2.5 yrs. She has put a lot of time & effort into this group and its development. I have agreed to take over, however, I cannot be as committed as Emily has been. Currently, this group is at somewhat of a crossroads. Many have taken advantage of what it has to offer, but now is the time where we need a few people to step up. For example, I will not be organizing any meetups at Fixx or Brady Street. I live out in Mukwonago and Saturdays just don't work for me. If there are individuals who have been "regulars" at either of these meetups, and want to see them continue, then the ball is in your court. This does not require
much skill, expertise, time or anything else. With any group, there are individuals who just go along for the ride & then there are a few who are willing to make things happen. If no one steps up, then those Saturday meetups will just die.
I spoke with Rosa and she is going to continue her Saturday groups in Shorewood. We also have a regular meetup at Starbucks, Hwy 100 & Greenfiled every other Wed, and everyone is welcome. If you have an idea as to a new location then please propose it. There are about 130 people signed up in this group and I believe that there are more ideas out there as to activities or locations than I have in my little brain.
I will be out of the country until Oct 8, however will have some access to emails. If you want to set something up, discuss an idea, please do contact me.
