Our regular Lunch & Code event. Following on from our introduction to Twine last December, this month we'll be joined by artist and Twine author Maz Hemming (http://mazhemart.co.uk/), who will show us more advanced Twine techniques using the SugarCube story format. This is a joint event with the Oxford and London Interactive Fiction Group (https://www.meetup.com/Oxford-and-London-Interactive-Fiction-Group/).

The workshop will cover creating a Twine where clicking on pictures creates a change. This can be used with text to make point and click adventure games, hidden object games, or just fun experiments in the way of https://mazhem.itch.io/kaleidoscope . We'll be using SugarCube 2 (v2.23.5), which is exactly the same whether in Twine 1 or 2, but will be more familiar to those who have used Twine 1.

Attendees should know the basics of Twine, how to create and test pages, and what a variable is. No Javascript knowledge is needed, but knowledge of CSS will be very useful. Pictures and sounds to use in your creations will be provided, but please feel free to bring along your own too!

Maz Hemming is an enby who lives in Brixton and likes to make little simulators in Twine. They can be most often found on Twitter at @MazHem_ and they've also been drawing a webcomic about the Gunpowder Plot at http://mazhemart.co.uk/webcomic/thirteen-lions/

Schedule for the day:
• 12:00pm–12:30pm — Arrival & lunch served
• 12:30pm–5:30pm — Presentation and workshop, including coding and discussion time

For discussion and link-sharing before, during, and after the event, we'll be using the #twine channel on our Slack (https://slackinvite-qcldn.herokuapp.com/).

If you don't have your own laptop, please come anyway — we can pair you up with someone who does have a laptop. We're all super friendly and often pair together.

If you're new to the group: we know it can be difficult to join a new social group, so we offer a Buddy Scheme to make it easier; one of our team will meet you before the event starts, and then help introduce you to the group. See our Buddy Scheme page (https://github.com/qcldn/docs/blob/master/buddy.md) for more information.

If you'd rather just come and work on your own stuff, that's fine too. Bring your personal projects, your ideas, even your homework! This is a great opportunity to get feedback on your own projects.

If you're not sure what to work on but would like the chance to practice and develop your skills, we will have experts on hand to give you suggestions and help.

As well as coding, there will be plenty of time to meet other queer developers.

Accessibility:

The building is located in a large square. It can be a little difficult to find. The building has a large glass front and a large purple sign reading "ZPG".

Come to Copper Row via Lafone Street to have access to a ramp to the building. It's easy to miss but it definitely exists! This will also negate the need to use stairs to get up to the entrance.

If you come from another direction (Copper Row via Horselydown Lane), walk to the very end and walk up the steps. The door will be on your right.

Although there is a small lift to get up the 8 or so stairs from the outside of the building to the front entrance, we cannot guarantee its use on the day.

We'll be in the cafe area on the first floor. There are lifts inside the building to get up there, as well as a staircase. There is a gender-neutral accessible toilet on the same level.
