We look forward to seeing you at our November meetup, the last one for the year.

Arrive from 5:45pm for a 6pm talk.

The Connected Communities of R

TALK OUTLINE:

The strength of the R sub-culture is supported by a robust set of connected communities, and in this talk I’m going to talk about using a data-driven approach to identify these communities and their relationships. Using a collection of over 400,000 tweets I will use signal processing and graph techniques to uncover the structure of the network - obviously all done using R!

In the talk we will:

  • show how to use the “twitterscraper” Python package (booooooo!!!) to pull 400,000 tweets about R

  • use the tidygraph, ggraph, particles and gganimate R packages to analyse and visualise the structure of the network

  • use signal processing techniques to create community engagement features for clustering

  • use the rtweet package to pull metadata about tweets and users

  • use the blogdown package to publish your work
