What we're about

If you are one of the many people who have determined that religion no longer has a place in their life, but are still dealing with the after-effects in some way or another, Recovering From Religion may be just the right spot for you. Many people come to a point that they... no longer accept the supernatural explanations for the world around them, or they realize just how much conflict religious belief creates. It can be difficult to leave religion because family and culture put so much pressure on us to stay and pretend to believe the unbelievable. If this is you, we want to help you find your way out. Don't let people convince you that you just didn't have 'enough' faith, or that you just haven't found the "right" religion.

The primary focus of Recovering From Religion is to provide ongoing and personal support to individuals as they let go of their religious beliefs. This transitional period is an ongoing process that can result in a range of emotions, as well as a ripple effect of consequences throughout an individual’s life.

Recovering From Religion Monthly Meeting - OKC

Old School Bagel Cafe

If you identify as someone who is doubting, questioning or rejecting a few or a great many of the aspects of the religious worldview that has shaped your life up until now, and you would like a safe, judgement-free zone where you can talk to others about it without fear of biased feedback or proselytizing, you are not alone, and we are here to give you a place to brainstorm with new friends about how one moves forward from such a significant turning point in their life. The Oklahoma City branch of the Recovering From Religion - Support Groups will meet the 2nd Saturday of every month at 11am, barring inclement weather or occasions that the date falls on a holiday. Members can remain anonymous if they so choose and are not required to tell their story if they do not wish to, but everyone will be welcomed to do so. We will meet at the Old School Bagel Café in the Uptown area of Oklahoma City. The café features a relatively private upstairs seating area to accommodate our large group. If you have any challenges climbing stairs, please let organizers know and downstairs arrangements can be made. The café does not require patrons purchase anything while there, but the bagels and bagel sandwiches are quite good! You can preview the menu at the following link: https://oldschoolbagel.com/menu/ There is no cost to attend this support group, but if you feel so inclined as to make a donation to Recovering From Religion, you can do so at the following link: https://www.recoveringfromreligion.org/donate/
