In our past meetups, many of us talked or asked about big data as applied to the entertainment industry, partially because we live in Los Angeles - the center for global entertainment industry.

So, for our next meetup, let us gather together to discuss big data platforms for the entertainment industry, with case studies in Disney.

And let us meet in the Disney Synergy Lab in Glendale for this meetup.

For this meetup, our speaker will be Mr. Levon Karayan - Director, Engineering & Data Insights at Disney. For 24 years Levon has been pushing the data envelope in companies ranging from small startups as employee #1 to large enterprises with hundreds of thousands of employees. While in the game industry he spoke about the challenges of developing extraordinarily large multimedia applications at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). For the finance industry he mined early social data. At Yahoo, he led engineering for their second largest search advertising product. And today he sets data strategy and data culture for Disney.

As many of us know, the data industry is loud, complex and crowded. In this meeting, we will navigate through the noise and discuss the team, infrastructure and platform in a big/fast data implementation. We'll then dive into how it can be used to gather analytics and serve recommendations for a large consumer facing website as well as serve analysts across a large enterprise at Disney.
