What we're about

Rogue Valley Networking Toastmasters began as a business networking group in Grants Pass, OR. Today it is a diverse public speaking club of authors, business owners, community leaders, and individuals in various stages of career development. What unites us all is our desire to be better communicators and listeners. What makes us a club is the community, the support, the powerful framework of Toastmasters International, and fun we all have together on Mondays at The Boardroom.

What?

What is Toastmasters?

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs.

What is a Toastmasters Club and do I have to join to attend?

Each club features a unique culture, so there's no pressure to join the first club you visit! Attending club meetings as a guest is free, so visit as many as you like until you find a club that fits your personality.

What is a meeting like at Rogue Valley Networking Toastmasters?

Each meeting has a format and schedule we follow, starting at 4pm and ending at 5pm. If we have guests, we begin with a quick round of introductions. Then the schedule kicks off.

What should I wear and what should I bring?

Most of us come to Toastmasters straight from work, so we are wearing what we put on for work. Some arrive in business casual, some in suit and tie, others in tidy-looking jeans and a t-shirt. If an individual is giving a speech, it is recommended to dress for the occasion. You might want to bring a pen and paper for notes, but otherwise just bring yourself.

What if I'm very nervous?

Just the words "public speaking" are enough to elicit sweaty palms for some. This is normal. Many in the club started out nervous about public speaking, so we have empathy for nervous newcomers. Don't let your nerves stop you from joining us. Once you make it to a meeting, you will find a warm, welcoming group that will support you through those nerves.

From a member: "I heard about Rogue Valley Networking Toastmasters and was interested in joining. However, it took me six months to muster up the nerve to show up. When I finally visited for the first time, I was so nervous I felt like I was shaking when I introduced myself. However, everyone was so encouraging, and wanted me to come again, so I did! By my third time, I wasn't nervous anymore, and I joined the club. I can't believe how much I've improved speaking in front of an audience in just six months of membership. Now I wonder why I waited so long to show up!"
