Rainbow Lovers (RL) is a group to socially connect with other LGBTs and allies through Meetups posted* in the group. If you are questioning, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or LGBTQ friendly / ally born on or after 1970, this is the group for you.
Originally, this group was created in 2011 for 20's and 30's, which would cover 20-39 years old. The age was checked at admission time. Once someone was in the group, they could stay regardless of age. However, it was more important to "stay" together because as time passes, age changes and past 39, someone couldn't join the group even though there are people in the group past 40. Therefore, the group name & policy changed to 1970-1990s+ on February 23rd, 2020, when there were 737 members in the group. * The Meetups posted in this group will not always be original LGBT-themed Meetups. We, the members, are LGBT or allies. The Meetups may or may not be LGBT-themed. The Meetups may be anything, such as a social gathering, a hiking trip, or going to a movie together. However, they can also be visiting an event organized by other people, outside of this group. For example, the Meetup may be to visit an event at a church, such as a Sunday service or a testimony meeting. Or, we may go to a talk at a metaphysical bookstore together. We may have multiple and many events that look the same or the same kind OR many of the similar kind but that doesn't mean RL is affiliated with an organization behind them. We may choose to have a certain event or visit an organization's event many times for a while. At other times, we may have a variety. RL may also have sponsors from time to time. Sponsors will be either listed here, or announced in the group, or both.
The group doesn't have dues but has optional contributions at a suggested rate of $5 per year. If you attend a Meetup and benefit from it or like it, you can contribute after that. You can give it to me as cash in person or use this Meetup group's contributions link (7.5%+$0.50 will be deducted as fees). The contributions go towards the fee that Meetup.com charges the organizer, $197.88/yr as of 2/23/2020. The rest may be used to rent event room(s) when we need to and if not, then it can act as part of a reserve fund.
Please RSVP if you will be coming to a Meetup for proper planning. Since no shows are not helpful, it's encouraged to update RSVPs whenever you can. When you can't, you can communicate with me (the organizer) through Meetup messages whenever possible. If you have a smartphone, it helps to have the Meetup app on your phone, too.
Members can suggest meetups as ideas to me (Alex). I will consider them. Lastly, if you do NOT want to be photographed at events, please inform the leadership team or let the organizer / host of the event know when you attend a Meetup. This is only necessary if there's photography or somebody takes pictures during the Meetup; otherwise, no need to inform.
