The present moment is all we have. How will we show up in it? Mindfulness helps us to be alert to the present moment, and can thereby help us reduce stress that arises from worrying about the past and the future, which exist only in our minds. John Kabat-Zinn, founder of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, defines mindfulness as paying attention in the present moment, on purpose, and without judgment.
At our meetups we will practice meditation, body scans, mindful walking, sense and savor, mindful listening, and other mindfulness practices. Research has shown that these techniques, when practiced regularly, can actually change the mind's typical thought pattern - from one of involuntary reaction, to one of intentional responsiveness.
During our practices, we set our intention to accept and honor all that arises within us and around us in this moment without judgment, and with patience, trust, curiosity, compassion, and gratitude. We learn to let go of thoughts that aren't serving us well. In so doing, we may learn what it means to simply BE human. Our meetups will be opportunities to slow down, and to transform from a human DOING into a human BEING. All experience levels are welcome. I look forward to meeting and practicing with you. Namaste.
