What we're about

This is a group for anyone curious about (rational) Buddhism. This group is likely for you if you have either been practicing a form of Buddhism for years or whether you are just dipping your toes in the water. That being said, the focus of this group and our discussions will primarily be on rational Buddhism. What is rational Buddhism you ask? Buddhism like most other religions or philosophies in the world has a large mystical element to it which can't necessarily be reconciled with its more practical aspects. The goal of rational Buddhism (for our purposes and not based on any formal definition) is going to be to avoid the mysticism and deity worship as much as possible. Topics may include practical aspects like different forms of Buddhist meditation, books on the topic, or perhaps how Buddhist philosophy relates to evolution.

We will plan to hold our meetings at different locations either in Detroit or in neighboring suburbs like Ferndale or Hamtramck, combining our discussions with beer, coffee or perhaps a meal.
