The mission for Rational Kind is to create a grassroots organization that will increase the amount of rational thinking exhibited in our country, as well as the number of kind and respectful interactions that we're having around important issues and innovations. To start with, it’s meant to change the *way* people think more than *what* they think. (The latter may change as a result, but that's not the initial focus.)
For many people, using critical thinking skills is completely foreign and so with this group, I would like to develop a plan (in conjunction with a leadership team) by which we can strategically identify important online conversations. And in these conversations, the larger membership would model communication that’s rational in nature, intellectually humble, introduces a bigger perspective, demonstrates a compassionate response, etc. I believe it is from these conversational environments that we as a society can discover better solutions to our complex problems and make better decisions in all areas of our lives.
So for now, I guess you can think of this as:
PHILOSOPHY meets MARKETING meets SOCIAL ACTION
• Philosophy: being aware of the way we think, understanding our psychological biases, intellectual humility, etc.
• Marketing: using strategic planning, technology, social media, writing, crowdfunding, etc.
• Social action: responding to political issues and hot-button topics in our society, promoting openmindedness and collaboration as a means to solve problems and inspire innovation, etc.
If this sounds like an interesting and worthwhile adventure, I hope you’ll join the group! We'll be meeting in Boulder -- place TBD based on the interest level.
