What we're about
Calling all hikers, walkers, park lovers, horseback riders, and general outdoor types!
The Friends of Raven Rock State Park Group is for people who want to get outside and into a beautiful park setting. Raven Rock State Park is part of the North Carolina State Park system and is a short distance from Lillington, Sanford, Fuquay-Varina and Fayetteville. Hikers at Raven Rock have said it is like having a bit of the mountains in the center of the Sandhills.
The Meetup Group page is paid for and managed by the Friends of Raven Rock State Park, but the Park also posts Meetups here. Hiking, bonfire fun and volunteer opportunities will all be posted on this Meetup.
Friends of Raven Rock love their state park's natural views to enjoy such as Lanier Falls, Fish Traps rapids, the massive Raven Rock overhang (an ageless landmark for hikers and river travelers), and the “Overlook” which provides a top down view of the Cape Fear River valley. We enjoy experiencing hiking on steep terrain among mountain laurel, rhododendron thickets, and tumbling creeks. The trials vary in length and difficulty so there are a variety of options for hikers of all levels.
Members of this group can set up hikes and events for educational purposes, specialized groups, or just for fun! Our groups' mission as a North Carolina 501(c)(3) organization is to promote Raven Rock State Park and to generate support so that everyone can enjoy this natural resource for many years to come.
