I thought I understood how React’s Virtual DOM worked — until a proof-of-concept with Svelte made me stop and really question it.
What I discovered challenged some core assumptions. Behind React’s abstractions lie trade-offs that can quietly affect performance and developer decisions.
This talk isn’t about picking sides or diving deep into internals.
It’s a personal journey back to fundamentals: how the browser actually updates the DOM, what React’s VDOM and Fiber are trying to solve, and how a better mental model can lead to faster, leaner components.

Over the years, I’ve contributed to major companies including IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries), Zap Group, and Mer Group.
I hold a B.Sc. in Software Engineering and am currently focused on integrating cutting-edge technologies into Cellebrite’s (CLBT) solutions—making a real-world impact by helping save lives, reunite missing children with their families, and fight crime through digital intelligence.
Outside of work, I’m a proud mother of five.
