ReactNYC Meetup #7
Details
Yet another meetup in a big venue with some nice talks! It's kinda hard writing an interesting description for every meetup, so if you are good with that and want to help, please talk to us at nyc.js.org/chat ;-)
What's New in React 16?
Ava Shaw (https://www.linkedin.com/in/ava-shaw-04737b67/)
React 16 is a complete rewrite of the underlying React engine, yet it's backwards compatible. It recently hit beta and will be released soon. Let's see what exciting changes it brings and how it allows us to build better apps.
Don't REST on GraphQL
Michael Tobia (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mike-tobia/)
GraphQL is a buzz word these days, for good reason. There are obvious advantages that stack over conventional API structures as well as disadvantages - what I'll be discussing is the development experience with GraphQL in mind, what I've learned while using it with React and share some insight I picked up using some of the great packages & tools out there.
React Router
Evan Kaloudis (https://www.linkedin.com/in/evankaloudis/)
react-router handles all of your apps routes from the client-side, whether it be with URLs in your webapp or simple navigation in a React Native app. We'll take a look at the new component design in react-router v4, learn what declarative composability means for us as developers, and give you a rundown of how you can write and use your own routes in your apps.
Testing with Jest
Jennifer Kaplan (https://www.linkedin.com/in/kaplanjennifer/)
This talk will be an introduction to using Jest to test your React components. We will discuss why use Jest and the basics of snapshot testing.
