5 Rhythms® Sweat with Irem Luqman
5 Rhythms is a dynamic movement practice created by Gabrielle Roth, who has inspired thousands of people to MOVE; 'put the psyche into motion and it will heal itself'. Anyone can dance the 5 Rhythms, it just requires a beating heart and a willingness to move. What you can expect from a 2 hour class: We begin each class with a warm up, spending time moving however you want: stretching, breathing and dancing in a way that feels good for you, in the moment. You will then be given a short demonstration of a Wave, which is dancing the 5Rhythms in the same specific order, (flow, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness). This will then be followed by dancing your own Wave. There are no steps to learn and you can't get it wrong. You're invited to explore in your own way the 5 rhythms and how they want to move and be expressed through your body. What to bring: Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Water. We dance barefoot or with dance shoes only, no socks. The difference between teacher-led and Spaceholder classes: The group was started by Dean Kayum, a 5 Rhythms trained teacher. Once a month, Dean will return to teach this class in Reading; directing, guiding, and inviting dancers to explore their practice on a deeper level. Classes taught by Dean will be entitled as "5 Rhythms Dance with Dean Kayum". All other sessions will be entitled "5Rhythms Sweats with Irem Luqman". This will be a class where there is no "direction" and we simply dance the Wave music.

What we're about

This is a group for personal development through dance and movement. Many of the classes and workshops are facilitated by Irem Luqman who is a Dance Movement Psychotherapist in training and a 5 Rhythms Spaceholder. Irem has been running various dance-fitness classes in Reading since 2009 including Bollywood, Zumba, Burlesque and pole fitness.

The group, which was once named 'Reading Dance Fitness', has now become 'Reading BodyMind Dance' and has moved its focus from a purely 'fitness' one to offering dance and movement classes and workshops for the development of the body, mind and spirit.

You can find details of classes and workshops here such as 5 Rhythms classes, and workshops in self-expression, confidence, and finding personal voice through movement.

The aim of the classes are to create a safe, non-judgemental space where we have permission to be ourselves, and to express our body's voice through movement and dance.
