Reason Center

This event is hosted by our Partner Organization SacFAN. Original post and RSVP here https://www.meetup.com/SacFAN/events/sjbgqpyxhbhc/ Join us on the (usually) last Friday of the month for a night of games and food. Games will include Fibbage and other digital-media games from the Jack Box game series and table-top games such as Telestrations (both regular and After Dark edition), Joking Hazard, Exploding Kittens, You've Got Crabs, Cards Against Humanity, Gloom, Plague Inc., Epic Spell Wars, and any other game you would like to bring or suggest. NEWCOMERS ALWAYS WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED! So if you like trivia, games, fun, and probably pizza, then be sure to come hang out! NOTE: Fibbage and any other game from the Jack Box Series require you to bring a phone, laptop, or tablet with an internet browser. Fibbage maxes out at 8 players, but there are other games with no limit. We can also split in groups to play different games. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackbox_Games)

Religion vs. Nonbelief vs. Depression and Anxiety

Needs a location

Title: Religion vs. Nonbelief vs. Depression and Anxiety Sunday, April 28,[masked]pm Reason Center, 1824 Tribute Rd., Suite A, Sacramento Are religious people or atheists at greater risk of depression and anxiety? If there's a difference, what are the likely reasons? Most importantly, if you're depressed or anxious, whatever the cause, what can you do about it? The experience of atheists in the U.S. varies widely. Some have "come out atheist" with minimal impact, while others have been shunned, threatened, fired, or even killed. Michael Caton, MD, a Sacramento psychiatrist, will summarize what we know so far about mood disturbances among the non-religious, and what you can do if you find yourself feeling worried or down all the time. This Meetup is not for counseling or crisis. If you or someone you know is in crisis or considering suicide, call (916)[masked] or[masked]-TALK (8255) or 1-800-SUICIDE. Mike grew up outside Philadelphia. After a career in the Bay Area biotech industry developing new drugs, Mike went to medical school at UC San Diego and did his residency in psychiatry here at UC Davis. His research interest is delusions and neuroimaging and he sees patients at an inpatient psychiatric hospital here in Sacramento. In addition to psychiatry, Mike enjoys trail running, blogging, linguistics, and travel. He has a wife and one-year-old daughter who keep him honest. Remember to bring a few bucks (if you can) to help pay for renting the room. If you can't, come anyway. The important thing is for you to be there so you can meet your new friends. This is truly a wonderful group.

🍿🎥 🎫 🎬 Movie Night at Reason Center

Reason Center

Reason Center and AOF (Atheists and Other Freethinkers) co-sponsor a movie night two Fridays each month. Reason Center has a big screen and sound system. We have chairs, but they're not great for 2 hours of movie watching so we recommend you bring a comfy lawn chair, blankets, and pillows. You can also bring your own dinner and drinks to enjoy in addition to our complimentary theater popcorn. Our movie nights are free for Reason Center members, which starts at only $5/month and supports other activities for our local freethought community. If you would like to become a member sign up here: http://reasoncenter.org Did you notice we didn't say the name of the movie? Unfortunately the type of discounted movie license we have doesn't allow us to share the name of the movie. But you can become a Reason Center member to find out, or sometimes we include a hint in the comments.
