What we’re about

"Hiking, kayaking, canoeing, snowshoeing... in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake, Del Norte Humboldt, Trinity and part of Solano and Siskiyou counties is what this site is all about!"

Sierra Club membership is not required for participation, and all adults are welcome.

The Redwood Chapter of the Sierra Club, the nation's largest and oldest environmental organization, comprises Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake, Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity, and part of Siskiyou and Solano counties. Established more than 50 years ago, the Chapter offers a large variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, skiing, biking, camping, and service trips, all led by Sierra Club trained leaders.

Outings vary in length from a few hours to several days. (To find out the meaning of the number system of our description go to this page.) We generally meet at a designated local parking area and then carpool to the event site which can be located nearby or several hours away, and day-long events are sometimes followed by an optional dinner at a restaurant on the drive back. Leader styles vary greatly, and so does the level of physical ability needed for participation. Some hikes are very fast paced with few stops; others proceed at a very slow pace and with frequent stops.

You are required to be properly equipped and able to stay with the group, so be sure read the description and check with the leader in advance if you have any questions about whether an outing is suitable for you. Some hikes require advance reservations but except for charges such as parking or entrance charges all are free.

Please note that dogs or other pets are permitted only on outings that are pre-advertised or otherwise identified as dog- or pet-permitted outings.

Each participant on an outing is required to complete and sign a standard liability waiver. If you would like to read the liability waiver before an outing click here Sierra Club Outings or contact the Outings Department at 415.977.5528 for a printed version.
