Primitive Fire Building (Beginner's Level)

Reedy Creek Nature Center

Get back in tune with nature and discover the methods of fire building the way your ancestors have done it. No matches, no tools, just what nature has to provide is all you have. The Survival Dude will discuss the different natural materials, show a handmade bow drill and demonstrate how to start a primitive fire. Afterwards, it is your turn, under the guidance of the Survival Dude, to try your hand at creating a fire. (All supplies will be provided.) Adult participation required if under 18. Primitive Fire Building (Intermediate Level)

Reedy Creek Nature Center

This class will go beyond practicing the how to start a primitive fire to how to make the tools to start a fire. The Survival Dude will first start out demonstrating how to carve the different parts of a bow drill and discuss preferred wood specimens. Then, you got it, it is your turn to start carving your tools. The last part of the class will be spent on practicing a bow drill. (All supplies, including knives will be provided.
