What we're about

Welcome to Renaissance's Meetup page!

Renaissance is a collection of diverse communities launching in and around Waltham, MA (and Auburndale/West Newton). For us, this is all about stripping away religious complexities to empower people to bring Jesus to the everyday places they live, work and play.

The Gospel of John says that God put on flesh and moved into the neighborhood (John 1:14, MSG). There is no divide between the sacred, secular, messy, and ordinary. God connects all things and people. We seek to be a church that lives this reality out by doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly in everyday life - in homes, coffee shops, workplaces, schools, the outdoors, the streets, and in our neighborhoods. So, we're a church starting simple - with smaller initiatives and communities of people who commit to live out this mission and our values together where they live, work and play.

We'd love to hear from you at renaissanceccboston@gmail.com! Also - join our Meetup group and look at the upcoming events!

Koinonia (Physical, Emotional, and Mental Health Group)

Koinonia is a Greek word that is translated in the bible as "fellowship", "sharing", "participation", and "contribution". We want all of those translations to be descriptors of our Koinonia microchurch. More specifically, Koinonia exists for people of all backgrounds to come together and talk about our struggles with physical, emotional, and mental health.

Every month we will share about and participate in a discussion centering around our experience with the topic that month. In June, we talked about anxiety, and in July we will be talking about grief & loss. We will also be discussing things such as heartache, chronic illness, depression, greed, self-worth, eating disorders, stress, loneliness, abandonment, phobias, traumatic events, and much more.

While this group is intended for those struggling with issues such as these, we believe that anyone can join and contribute to the conversation because if we are honest with ourselves, we've all dealt with these topics and have experiences with them, even if we aren't the ones that were affected directly. Through discussions every month, we hope to create fellowship among the group and you will hopefully leave each time feeling like you're not alone and you don't have to conquer all of your struggles by yourself.
