I have three new characters planned but this new one wil start with something I am a tiny bit familiar with - a Sorcerer, but it will be a dragon disciple when it reaches level 5, once it has 5 ranks in Knowledge (Arcana).

The chronicle for Part 2 would be applied to the character number that you put on the sign up sheet. Since you played a pregen then I assume that character isn't level four yet therefore that you can't apply the credit until you reach level four. As for part 3 you can play it with a Pregen if you don't have a level 7 character. When you play it just record the character number you would like it applied to and then when that character reaches level 7 then you can apply the credit.

I put a character number on my chronicle sheet for a character that doesn't exist, because I assumed at the time that like parts I and II, Part III was lvl 1-5. Since it is not, but is for lvl 3-7, I am asking if the chronicle sheet can be applied to my existing character, a level 6 ranger, which is the character number I would have put on my sheet had I known that Part III is lvl 3-7 and had I known the answer to this question. So my question is still what I asked above.

actually you did answer part of the question: I can play the pregen if I don't get to level 7 with my ranger before the scenario is played, and put my ranger's char number on the sign up sheet (and chronicle sheet). But I would like to know if the sheets from Part II can be applied to my level 6 ranger or if I have to make that new character, assigning it the character number that I wrote on the sign up sheet for part 2.

If your character doesn't fall into the trip at the time of playing then it can't be applied. Even if you haven't created the character yet the chronicle goes to the character you wrote on the sign up sheet.

I have no idea what "fall into the trip" means. And you make writing a number on a sign up sheet sound like a contractual obligation.

I found the answer I was looking for in the PSGtoOP: "You may not apply a Chronicle sheet earned with a pregenerated character to a character that was already at the level of the pregenerated character or higher, as you should have used this character for the scenario instead." I assumed that you can't play a level 6 character in a lvl 1-5 scenario, which makes sense to me. Now I have to decide whether I am going to play my level 6 without the benefits of the chronicle sheets from part II or wait until I have a character at level 4 and somebody runs Part III again. Decisions, decisions.
