Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement® classes uniquely teach you to become aware of your movement patterns and to improve and change them at a deep, lasting level.

Because of the Covid-19 situation, all classes are moving to ZOOM classes to be held at the same times as regularly scheduled, as of March 24th, 2020. If you wish to participate, you will have to provide me with your email address as each class receives a zoom invitation from me the night before the scheduled class. The link changes every time, for safety.

In both cases, YOU become your own body mechanic as you learn to trust and respect the information your body has to share with you. This self-empowering physical awareness and movement training will reconnect you to yourself in a meaningful, intelligent and skeletal way.

Please join us if you want to improve your posture, range of movement, balance or reduce movement pain and muscular tension. Most people don't sign up through Meetup.com, so don't let the attendance numbers confuse you. That will be even more true now while classes are held online.

In person Classes are seldom canceled and people always show up. Its a great way to develop self- and body awareness, find graceful, stable movement, and connect your brain and body back up to become the amazing person you want to experience!

Due to Covid-19, class will given in zoom format from this week forward, meaning you will do it in your home or wherever YOU are, not at the Reno Buddhist Center.

Regular rates apply, including sliding scale ($8-15 per class), but it you wish to try a class for free, that's ok too. Otherwise use your 10-class card. When we resume person classes again, the Thursday 5-6:30 pm Feldenkrais class at the Reno Buddhist Center (820 Plumas at Taylor, enter from the Taylor side) is a little different from Tues and Sat. It focuses solely on relaxing, slow, mindful, meditative self-sensing and self-awareness by doing Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons. This class is also the official portal for people new to the Feldenkrais Method, or who have been away for a period of time. Thus it is both a beginners' class and a class for those who wish to discover a beginner's mind through Awareness Through Movement (ATM class).

Every week I will teach lessons that focus on real self care, and which are de-stressing, simple, organizing and meditative. Lesson themes may include vision, breathing, balance and/or functional movement or combinations of these. They will be gentle opportunities for you to learn to respect, listen to and take seriously the information your body is trying to share with you, to stop being on autopilot.

This class will help people who want quieter, gentler support for any reasons, including:
--Movement issues
--Nervous system function
--Chronic pain
--Long-term health issues
--Trauma and stress relief
--MS and Parkinson's and other neurological concerns
--Post-stroke, surgery or injury
--Cancer

People who want to explore and find quieter, deeper ways to connect with themselves for wellbeing/healing, integration and transformation will benefit from this class. Our bodies are magnificent instruments that we can learn to play with much more refinement, even when we are ill or vulnerable, in pain, fatigued or overwhelmed, or lost. Whatever our age, condition or state, improving our self awareness will optimize our lives and support our human development and understanding. The movements are done slowly, with focused attention, activate the proprioceptors in your joints and the neural pathways throughout your body. Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais [masked]) was a nuclear physicist, a civil engineer, a martial arts specialist and a brilliant thinker. He developed this method to recover from his own inoperable injuries and restore the use of his body; he spent the end of his life training others to teach it. Dr. Feldenkrais was considered by many to be the grandfather of neuroplasticity long before technology existed to verify the changes in the brains he witnessed in his students. We now know that working mindfully with focused attention for periods of 30 mins or more is a powerful restorative tool, physically, cognitively and spiritually. If these things are interesting to you, you will be in the right place.
