Reno/Sparks Book Club Meetup

Set in the Malayan island of Penang just before, and during, World War II, this is the story of Phillip Hutton, a half-British, half-Chinese young man who feels he's an outcast in both communities. Before the war, Phillip is befriended by a mysterious Japanese diplomat intent on using him for espionage purposes. When the war breaks out, Phillip must act to save his family and come to terms with his betrayal and torn beliefs.

When word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, all the heroes of Greece are called upon to lay siege to Troy in her name. Seduced by the promise of a glorious destiny, Achilles joins their cause, and torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus follows. Little do they know that the cruel Fates will test them both as never before and demand a terrible sacrifice.
