Ski and Dine in the French Alps
Join Saveur the Journey (http://www.saveurthejourney.com/) for a Ski/Snowboard trip to the French Alps March 9-17, 2018 with a focus on food, especially cheese! We will ski/board the "Portes du Soleil," 12 interconnected resorts in the French and Swiss Alps encompassing over 650km of slopes. In the evening we will experience the famous cheese dishes of the region “Fondue au Fromage” (rustic bread dipped into a simmering pot of melted mountain cheeses and wine), “Raclette” (slices of creamy melting cheese poured over boiled potatoes and eaten with cured meats), “Tartiflette” (a gratin of potatoes, lardon, and onions covered with a slightly aged soft cheese called Reblochon) and more (like mountain trout, local sausage, pastries, delicious wine, and beautiful winter salads)! There is also an optional guided descent of the "Vallee Blanche;" 20km of guided backcountry skiing/boarding on the glacier of Mont Blanc. We will visit a cheese maker to watch cheese being made, meet thier cows, and visit the cheese cave, followed by a tasting of course while we mingle with French famers. A stop at a charcuterie for a tour, demonstration, and tasting will help us understand the art of curing meat. Accommodations for the group will be in a beautiful mountain chalet (http://www.villa-solaire-morzine.com/en/villa-solaire.) in the ski town of Morzine, France. Cost for the trip is $2950 for double occupancy and includes accommodations, lift tickets, transportation within France and Switzerland, almost all meals, and visits to food producers. Airfare, alcohol, and trip insurance not included. +$350 for guided descent of Mont Blanc. 8 nights- 9 days. If you would like more information about this trip and to see photos and short videos please visit http://www.saveurthejourney.com/ski-vacation-in-france/ or go to http://www.saveurthejourney.com (http://www.saveurthejourney.com/). For bookings please email aaron@saveurthejourney.com. Space is limited to 10 people. "The skiing alone is a great reason to join Aaron on a winter trip to the Alps but there is so much more that makes it the trip of a lifetime. The chalet is world class, the food is the delicious cuisine of the region, made by people who live there. Aaron and his French friends knowledge of the area, the history, and the food culture help immerse us into life in the French Alps. I can’t wait to do it again!" -Katrin, Waldport, OR

    What we're about

    Public Group

This group is for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels to meet others who love to ski or ride. Our common interest is a passion for sking or boarding and our goal is simple… to get out on the snow and have FUN! During the season we'll hold monthly meetings (mixers/happy hours), organize day & weekend trips, car-pool, etc. (and occasionally, a few trips out of the area; like Colorado, Whistler, etc). We'llalso partner with other ski clubs or Meetup groups for combined activities. Anyone who wants to assist with organizing an event or get-togethers at a particular area or resort is welcome to become an Assistant Organizer; just ping Clint. Ideally, we'll have Organizers for each Reno, North Shore, South Shore, West Shore & possibly Carson/Minden/Gardnerville. Everyone is welcome; singles, couples, families; all ages; whether new to the area or a long-term Reno/Tahoe resident. Sign-up, watch for the meetup postings & get ready for another GREAT snow season in Tahoe with a bunch of new friends on the mountain!! BTW, the main photo posted is Moglmasher... on a "PowderBumps" day on Gunbarrel. Two thumbs up!
