Reston Tech Talks #3

Reston Tech Talks is a monthly gathering of tech professionals in the greater Reston area. Our vision is to create a space where startups and tech firms can gather to learn from industry veterans, network with potential employers, and learn about the different companies in the area.

Every month, attendees will hear from different speakers in the local tech community in a segment we call “Tech Talk”; watch brief product demos from local companies; and at the end, attendees will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the group and share any announcements.

Tech Talk speakers are invited to share their wisdom and experience in 10 minutes or less. We ask that you share one story about how you overcame a challenge. For example: if someone from Constellix were to give a talk, we might discuss how we grappled with scaling our network monitoring service to capture metrics from tens of thousands of websites simultaneously.

Attendees are encouraged to present short product demonstrations in 10 minutes or less (including time for Q&A). We only have time for a handful of demos each month, so sign up early! Please send us an email at RTT@constellix.com with the name of your product and a brief explanation of what it does.

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

RTT is jointly sponsored by Constellix, a DNS Management service based in Reston, and Spaces - Reston, Wiehle Metro, a collaborative work area.

WHO SHOULD JOIN:
RTT is open to anyone who works in the local tech industry.

Service providers are welcome, too, but we ask that you reserve product pitches to the Product Demos section of the event --make sure you sign up ahead of time.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
5:15 - 6:00 pm | Arrival & Icebreakers & Food : Networking, socializing, fun time with techies, industry experts, and presenters. Drop in your business card if you want to participate in the raffles.

6:00 - 6:05 | Welcome message from our sponsors and community announcements.

6:05 - 7:10 | Tech Talks (10 min maximum) and Product Demos with Q&A (10 min each)

Our speakers and talk topics this month are:

Christopher Wright
Talk: Implementation of Innovative Technology such as 3D models, UAS and LiDAR to engineering projects.

Justin Frazier
Talk: REST is the go-to standard for building API's. Not there is a new technology that is making an effort to become the new API standard. Is GraphQL the new REST?

Banjo Obayomi
Talk: How AI/ML solutions are built by going over use cases and code examples.

Paul Caiazzo
Talk: What problem are we trying to solve and how do we accomplish it?

7:10 - 7:30 | Lightning round for attendees to make their own announcements. Each speaker will have 30 seconds to introduce themselves, what they do, if they are hiring, looking for a co-founder, collaboration, etc.

7:30 - TBD | Happy hour at Founding Farmers next door. (optional)

LOCATION:
The Spaces Reston office at the Wiehle Metro, 6th floor of the new Comstock building next to Founding Farmers.

You will need to be let into the building, as well as onto the elevator. We will have event staff in the lobby to assist you, but please be patient.
