Calling all creators! It’s time to roll up our sleeves and work directly within our neighborhoods to move from revolutionary theory into ACTION!
We are excited to announce The Creators (http://revolutionla.org/the-creators), a community-building project that brings together local activists with a mission to help empower and improve the lives of disadvantaged populations.
This is a brainstorming and strategy meeting for our first Creators project- the makeover of a Basement Classroom in the Koreatown/Westlake area of LA.
For the past 5 years, the incredible volunteers at the non-profit organization UPLA (https://uplosangeles.org) have offered free tutoring classes for underprivileged children ages 6 to 11.
This is the Basement Classroom:

The classroom sits on the basement floor of the First Unitarian Church, without ample lighting, paint on the wall, carpeting on the floor, and a limited number of books and toys.

This is our vision for what this space can become with our efforts!

Our goal is to transform the basement into a more welcoming and inspiring environment for the students who come here to learn.
This is a call for all revolutionaries and creators to join us for this exciting community-building project!
We need your help to pool together ideas, resources and donations for painting, school supplies, books, furniture, fixtures, art and educational toys, to co-create a positive space for these children to recognize their unlimited potential.
Improving our community is something we can organize here-and-now to create real results. This is the revolution on a micro level, working directly in our streets to address real-life problems and create a difference in the real world. The Creators takes inspiration from Huey Newton and the Survival Programs- a framework for the oppressed to become active by organizing food, health services and education on a grassroots level, providing solutions for the daily needs of the people.
This is our service to the people, our time to be the change we want to see.
Rise up creators and bring your ideas to the table!
