Keith's Mid-week Mystery Tour - Intermediate
Join us for a mid-week Intermediate Ride and join in the fun! Average speed will be about 16mph (19mph on the flat). We meet at Roehampton Gate Café (Colicci) at 9:20am (just by the entrance to the decking area at the side of the cafe) for pre-ride brief and introductions and start the ride at 9:30am. There will be a coffee/sandwich stop at the midway point. If you are not sure whether you can maintain the average speed indicated, please attend one of our weekly Saturday "Meet the Members Laps session" to acquire a provisional club ranking. This will enable us to ensure that you are placed in the right group on Club Rides. To enable the ride to be safe and enjoyable for all, please observe these three golden rules of group cycling. 1. Do not ride off the front/surge. When you take the front, check behind after a few seconds to make sure you haven’t opened up a gap. 2. Look behind regularly and shout "Slow!" or "Man down!" if a gap develops in the group behind you. If you hear a shout of "Slow!" or "Man down!", pass it up the line. 3. Regroup at junctions and tops of hills. The aim is to ride together. However, in case you get separated from the group for whatever reason, make a note of your ride leader’s mobile number before the ride starts. Essential - please bring two water bottles, snacks, cash for coffee, lights, a pump, Allen keys/multi-tool and at least one spare inner tube. Please do not turn up to the event if you have not RSVP’d or the event is full. If you are unable to attend for any reason then please amend your RSVP asap to allow someone else to attend in your place. All participants are invited to send though any feedback to me (Richard of York, Organiser) on any ride as well as posting any comments and uploading your photos on this page. Ride Leaders will give feedback on riding etiquette, ranking recommendations etc. Apply to join our Facebook page at for cycling news and to post your photos, views and comments there! Apply to join our Strava club and compare your rides with other club members and friends at I look forward to seeing you! Richard PS. If you would like to become a ride leader for the club, please contact me through the Organiser link on the left of the page or by clicking on my profile pic.

What we're about

Welcome to Richmond Park Velo – the friendliest cycling club in west London!

All our events are posted on this Meetup site but check out our bespoke website which is where you'll need to go to sign up if you decide to join us Subs are £30 per year. Come out for a free introductory ride with us first though!

We meet and start most of our rides in Richmond Park, west London. If you want to join us, you only have to enjoy cycling, getting fitter and making friends. Oh, and you need a road bike!

This cycling club is for all levels from beginners to advanced. So whether you need help using your gears effectively or want to train competitively and enter sportives with us, RPV is the group for YOU!

The ethos of the club is collaborative and considerate riding – the team is stronger than the individual. Have a look through our Club Ride Rules ( to see what we aspire to. No one is perfect but we all share the aim to improve!

While some of the members race outside the club environment, we discourage racing on club rides where the stronger riders are expected to help the less strong ones by doing more work at the front rather than riding “off the front”. We regroup after hills and stop for mechanicals and punctures.

Members are given a ranking – Steady/Intermediate/Intermediate+/Advanced to ensure that the riders in each group on a club ride are, so far as possible, of the same standard. Click here for more information on our ranking system: What Does My Ranking Mean (

All our ride leaders ascribe to the same values of collaborative and considerate riding and offer constructive criticism and encouragement. Here is what we try to do Ride Leader Guidelines (

Group rides are offered at various levels to ensure compatibility of members’ abilities. If you are concerned about what level you should start at, drop an email to the Organiser or come to one of our relaxed "Meet the Members" coffee mornings where we chat while we cycle and then have a coffee together in Colicci’s café at Roehampton Gate of Richmond Park.

So, what’s in it for you? Loads!

We give beginners tips to on how to ride efficiently and improve their hill-climbing and help intermediate cyclists move up to the next level by developing their group riding skills ie. their ability to ride collaboratively as a team.

We hold regular Skills Sessions where you can learn drafting and communication skills in a safe environment.

We organise cycle rides along many different routes in Surrey, Kent, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

See what weekly rides we offer here: Calendar (

Sunday Club rides are typically 50 miles for Steadies; 50 to 60 miles for Inters; 60 to 70 miles for Inter+ and 70 to 80 miles for the Advanced. All our club rides involve a break at the half way point for a coffee and a sandwich. Many of the members will stay around for “recovery ales” after the ride in a west London pub.

So, whatever your cycling goals, come, make friends and spin your wheels with Richmond Park Velo!

I hope to meet you soon!
