Itinerary for Kapiti Coast Road Trip

A former member
It looks like there are still a few spots left for Sunday's road trip...

What: Kapiti Coast Road Trip

When: Sunday, September 5, 2010 9:00 AM

Where: Wellington Railway Station
Waterloo Qy Thorndon

Hey folks,

Based on the poll, it looks like the following itinerary could be the one to go for this Sunday...

--- Itinerary ---

09:00 - Meet at the car park to the east of the platforms at the Wellington Railway Station. Finalise plans and make sure everyone has a seat.

09:15 - Set out for Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve.

09:45 - Arrive at the car park towards the end of Broken Hill Road. Weather and motivation levels permitting, walk to the summit of colonial knob (or as far as we can get within the time we decide we want to spend walking).

12:00 - Arrive back at cars. Drive to Paekakariki.

12:30 - Get coffee and/or food somewhere on Paekakariki Main Street. We could eat it in the park by the beach (~5 minutes drive from the main street).

13:30 - Head for Paraparaumu

14:00 - Arrive at Kapiti 4 x 4, on the Maungakotukutuku Road, which is east of Paraparaumu. Do some shooting/archery for around an hour or so. See below for details.

15:30 - Arrive at Paraparaumu Beach. Get fish and chips. Walk, sit, talk, etc.

16:30 - Start heading back for Wellington.

17:30 - Arrive back in Wellington. (5:30pm)

Here is a link to the proposed route using Google Maps:

How does that look?

--- What to bring ---

The driving part is 132km in total. You may like to bring a koha for the petrol. You may also like to bring some wet weather gear, snacks, sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, warm clothing, and plenty of water. If you bring a suitable bag with you, then you will not have to leave your valuables in the car when we are off walking and doing other activities.

--- Transport ---

It looks like we could still use one more car... volunteers?

Please change your RSVP to 'no' asap if you decide you are not coming - so that other people can have the opportunity to go in your seat.

--- Shooting/Archery at Kapiti 4 x 4 ---

A booking has been made for two in the afternoon. You can decide what you want to do when we get there. Clay bird shooting is $30 for ten shots. Archery is $15. Air pistol shooting is $10. They may not have Eftpos available.

--- Other Notes ---

The Blueberry Farm and Bakehouse will reopen again in January 2011. We could potentially combine that with a visit to Kaitoki Scenic Reserve and or Staglands some time after that.
