Dear Members: For our February Meetup, we will be hearing from Attorney Paul Starrett. This Meetup is offered as a member benefit to Section members, although does not include CLE credits.
Our topic: When performing a data-driven investigation, we are most interested in summarizing data to find what is going on, to look for useful relationships and to identify outliers that require further review. Unstructured data makes this quest a seemingly unattainable one. We will discuss how a synergy between machine-learning tools found in information retrieval, natural-language processing and graph databases provide an efficient means to vital insights that would, otherwise, be lost.
Our speaker: Paul Starrett, EnCE, CFE, is an attorney and private investigator specializing in high-profile investigations. His consulting firm leverages data-science tools to analyze structured and unstructured data. His 25-year career includes roles as general counsel, chief risk officer and as an information-security software engineer. Paul holds a Master’s degree in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from Golden Gate University.
