What we're about

Helping To Build Our Community!

Welcome to the Secular Humanists of Rochester meetup group! A chapter of the American Humanist Association.

Our goal is to provide a welcoming and safe place for all persons whether they consider themselves a humanist, atheist, agnostic, freethinker, nonbeliever, nontheist, skeptic, pagan, or do I dare say, an infidel.

Are you humanist? Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good.
Secular humanism, often simply called humanism, is a philosophy, belief system or life stance that embraces human reasonsecular ethics, and philosophical naturalism while specifically rejecting religious dogmasupernaturalism, and superstition as the basis of morality and decision making.

Whichever word you use to describe your philosophy of life, we’re glad you’re here and hope to see you at one of our upcoming events real soon.

If you have any questions, or suggestions, please contact one of us on the Leadership Team.

“If we only look out for ourselves, we would have only one person on our side.
If all of us look out for each other, we would have millions.”

UNHOLY EXIT: Stories of Our Journey to Reality

Irondequoit Public Library

When I came out as a nonbeliever on January 6, 2021, I wasn't sure how many of us there were. After going online, I realized I definitely was NOT alone.

Seeing the need for many of us to share our story as well as listening to what others have gone through is the reason for . . .

UNHOLY EXIT: Stories of Our Journey to Reality

If you'd like to share your out-of-religion journey, or if you prefer to just show support to others as they share theirs, then this event is for you.

Please RSVP as soon as possible as the room limit is only 14 people!

Any questions, please send a meetup message or email me at [masked].

This event is being offered to share our journeys with others who have gone through leaving religion. We are NOT mental health professionals. It's okay to be who you are, but if you are experiencing a crisis please seek assistance such as calling the National Suicide Prevention's new Hotline number: 988 (voice or text); or check out the free to low-cost resources at https://www.recoveringfromreligion.org and at https://www.daretodoubt.org.

Rise and Grind Secular Grounds Coffee Hour . . . or two . . .

Equal Grounds

It's Presidents' Day, so you know what that means . . .

For Monday, February 20th at 10:00 AM we'll be meeting at Equal=Grounds in the South Wedge at 750 South Ave, Rochester, 14620.

If you have a few minutes on the 20th, stop in, say hi, support this business by getting a cup of jo and feel better for the rest of the day!

Or stay longer to join in the discussion whether it's about world affairs, current local events or what your politicians have been up to. It's sure to be exciting (especially that last one).

This could be a great event to bring along some of your friends and/or family to show them just how cool we all are.

Of course, don't forget to RSVP!

Any questions, please let Gary know through a meetup message or text him at[masked].
