It's always hard to pick just one, but a few of my favorites are China Mieville, Neil Gaiman, Charles Dickens, and Jane Austen. (clearly I have a thing for Brit Lit) But I like many diverse styles and regularly indulge my inner teenager with YA fiction. A few favorites there are Madeline L'Engle, Phillip Pullman, and Garth Nix.
I do freelance writing occasionally - have written professionally - mostly tech writing, marketing, website/blog stuff. Years ago, I published a magazine with my work and others. I've been writing since I was about 8 but rarely does any of it see the light of day. I switched from stories to poetry to art to novels and everything in between along the way.
The things I'm working on now are magical realism in nature. Also YA - with a fantasy bent. Reading - just about anything. I alternate between mainstream fiction, urban fantasy, YA, and sci-fi mostly but anything is fair game. I have a particular love of things that bring in older mythology or fairy tales as I grew up on those. And anything involving time travel or alternate universes is right up my alley.
I can be bought with dark chocolate or brownies. My goal is to finish at least one piece for submission to publication or self-pub. And then new goals will follow.
