Zero Runtimes (March 2020)

Details

“I want to tell the rustians that I am alive. That I'm right here in Module Eight, where the GC has just bombed a heap-space full of unarmed structures, scalars and collections. There will be no survivors." The shock I've been feeling begins to give way to fury. "I want to tell people that if you think for one second the runtime will treat us fairly if there's a cease-GC, you're deluding yourself. Because you know who they are and what they do." My hands go out automatically, as if to indicate the whole horror around me. "This is what they do and we must fight back!"

"President Oracle says he's sending a message. Well I have one for him. You can torture us and bomb and burn our programs to the ground, but do you see that?" One of the cameras follows where I point to the high performing thread burning on the CPU-time of a process across from us. "Zero-cost is catching!" I am shouting now, determined he will not miss a word of it, "And if we lag, you lag with us!”

Hey, Hello, Buenas, cRustaceans

sorry for the last-minute cancellation of the last event. We will do the talks planned for the last month this time. And as always I couldn't help myself but to pervert a good book.

I will present the "server-backend" of etonomy.

A rest API written with actix-web (1.x). refactored several times ;D ... still not even close to what I would want but lets see. the reason why it's in quotes that actually it's also a CoAP proxy and based on the perspective the recipient can be seen as a Server and a Client which is planned to exist as standalone and distributed system. But these topics may lead to far this is not a product pitch it's simply the thing I was working on for the last 1 1/2 years in rust nothing special but maybe some things can be interesting to some of you guys.

The second talk needs to be verified so I won't announce it quite yet.

Please, if you want to give a talk do let me know. If you want to sponsor us don't hesitate ;D ... we most likely gladly take your money ...

I moved the meetups to monday, since I moved to upper austria and I work in vienna from monday till tuesday. This can ofc be changed but is the current state.

There have been certain changes in the organizer team. I removed the inactive ones and added Marc to be an official co-organizer.

Also we're maybe moving a bit from metalab to sclable and riak based, but we will keep you all informed.

once more I apologize if there was any inconvenience due to the short term cancellation last time. すみません

best Jakob

[Edit: 12.03.202]

There is a possibility, due to the current reclassification of the SARS-CoV-2/Covid-19 as pandemic, that we will cancel our Meetup. We as organizer think it makes sense to stay reasonable and we will wait the next 2 weeks and decide according to the circumstances how to act. We hope you all understand
