18:00 Introduction

18:10: "Manipulating ports, virtual ports, and pseudo-terminals" by Michalina Kotwica

What is the common trait of a web server, connecting two VMs together and a USB driver? Obviously, they all use ports! Whenever it's the web, pseudoterminals, or physical devices, ports are an easy way for virtualization of anything that can be viewed as "external", whenever it's over cable, Ethernet, VM, or simply local machine. It also enables you to use lots and lots of legacy software despite hardware has changed.
In this talk, I will show you libs for both synchronous and asynchronous support of ports, as well as some useful tools that can play well with your port-using apps, including running external shell commands (run bash over cable!), support of Unix signals (close connection on Ctrl+D!) and creating codecs (send data without writing a custom protocol!).

Level: semi-advanced, basic Tokio knowledge is a plus

Language: English

Michalina Kotwica - senior software engineer at IBM. Preaching Rust since before it was cool.

19:00 Discussion, Q&A...

We hope to meet you all online soon!
