Building high performance REST APIs with Rust and Rocket

Details

Rocket (https://rocket.rs/) is a web framework for Rust that makes it simple to write fast web applications without sacrificing flexibility or type safety. All with minimal code.

Sebastián Magrí (https://github.com/sebasmagri) will be walking through a workshop he wrote for creating a minimal API for clients to query the load average of a host through a single endpoint. The workshop should be approachable for relative newcomers to Rust.

Afterward there will be time for hacking (on Rocket or anything else you are interested in).

Note: The talk was formerly going to be given by Casey on the Rust Language Server. Since we were able to get ahold of Sebastián, we're putting that off for another night, but feel free to discuss the RLS with Casey during the hack portion of the evening.

Pizza will be provided (feel free to suggest toppings).

The venue is a 3 minute walk from the Ballston Metro Station. Vehicle parking is available in the building's garage entering from

N. Vermont St (Google Maps (https://goo.gl/maps/KUxYUBHMDV52))

and Distil Networks will validate parking (yay!). If the elevators or front doors are locked before 7 (we are trying to have them remain unlocked), please feel free to call/text Scott at 732.759.0006 and we will come let you up. If you park below the building, the doors to the elevator area should now also be unlocked.
