Bartlomiej Kaminski and Dug Campbell talk about MaidSafe and the SAFENetwork

Details

Welcome to the first SAFE Network: Brighton Meetup in 2019!

We are looking forward to meeting up with as many local SAFE Network fans as possible for an informal evening of discussion and socialising. We welcome MaidSafe long-time enthusiasts as well as beginners. So don't feel like you have to be an expert to join us!

For the first meetup of 2019, our line up includes two talks that should be of interest to beginners and long-time enthusiasts alike.

>>> TITLE: 'An Introduction to the SAFE Network. For Everyone.'

ABSTRACT: In this talk, Dug Campbell will give a broad-ranging, high level view of the SAFE Network - what it is, what it represents and why it might very well be one of the most important technologies being developed today. So if you are completely new to the space, this is the perfect opportunity to discover MaidSafe and get all caught up.

BIO: Dug is Head of Marketing and Outreach at MaidSafe, based in Scotland. He first fell down the Bitcoin rabbit hole in 2012, before founding the Scottish Bitcoin Meetup and Scottish Bitcoin Conference in 2014, before organising the first Ethereum meetups and hackathons in Scotland. He started his career as a lawyer, spending over a decade advising technology startups and their investors, before pursuing an MBA and becoming an independent strategy consultant, working with companies such as Skyscanner amongst others. After joining the MaidSafe community in 2014, he now spends his time spreading the word about the SAFE Network. You can reach him directly on Twitter at @ dugcampbell or join in the conversation at safenetforum.org

>>> TITLE ‘How MaidSafe Is Building Fully ABFT Consensus for the World’

ABSTRACT Last year, MaidSafe announced the release of a new consensus algorithm that broke new ground for distributed networks. During this talk, co-inventor of the protocol Bartlomiej Kaminski will discuss the recent improvements that are being built into PARSEC to make it fully asynchronous and why they’ll ensure that it remains one of the most advanced BFT consensus protocols in the world’

BIO Coming from a physics background (with a M.Sc. in Physics in the domain of general relativity), Bart taught himself programming from the age of 13. He coded professionally in a number of languages (Python, C++, C#) before switching to Rust when he joined MaidSafe in 2016. At MaidSafe, he worked on the routing layer of a decentralised peer-to-peer network where he contributed to big parts of the network design and implementation in Rust, culminating recently in co-inventing PARSEC in 2018, one of the most advanced BFT consensus protocols.

As always, there will be plenty of people around to socialise --- informal discussion and questions are encouraged. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
