What we're about

Our group’s members have autoimmune disorder diagnoses, or are close allies, friends, and family members of those with autoimmune conditions. As a group, we are here to meet you, wherever you may be on your autoimmune journey. We are a resource during your quest to understand the symptoms of autoimmunities and find clarity about how to live with them. (Trust us: we’ve been there, boy o boy do we know what the recent-diagnosis phase is like!) We are doing more than just existing with autoimmunities, we are living fully!

There are more than 100 known autoimmune conditions, with many others suspected as such.*

We thrive, and it is due in no small part to our face-to-face gatherings. These are where we
• compare our personal notes and experiences of trying to heal and manage symptoms
• unearth facts about our conditions: causes, symptoms, and treatment methods (proven and promising-but-experimental alike)
• trade life hacks, recipes, health care ideas, and even occasional favours
• offer each other the moral support that is so scarce in the day-to-day outside world
• inspire and delight one another
...and so much more!

As no two bodies are alike, there is no universally correct or incorrect treatment for any diagnosis or combo of diagnoses. But among those of us living inside an autoimmunity diagnosis, we have found that dedication to a few key treatment tools usually works wonders:
• A specialized, nutrient-packed diet
• Healthcare advice from functional medicine practitioners
• A rest-packed sleep diet
• Stress-management strategies
• Supportive and understanding environments (like this one!)
A good number of us also manage a laundry list of other ailments, allergies, or intolerances with these tools. See below for some further reading.**

We have a few guiding principles:
• Practice acceptance and compassion
• Celebrate anyone who prioritizes the quality of their lives
• Respect, part A: Everyone is allowed to feel as comfortable or weird or happy or sad as s/he wishes. At all times and without exception, our community does what is within its power to maintain safety for all, however please note that there is no way to guarantee safety at any point (https://www.meetup.com/SAIL-CO-Front-Range/pages/26583474/Legal_Disclaimer/).
• Respect, part B: The No Show & Short Cancellation Policy (https://www.meetup.com/SAIL-CO-Front-Range/pages/26583339/No_Show_and_Short_Cancellation_Policy/) is in place to assure all members of our community of the value and validity of their presence. By willingly being a member of this group, you are consenting to the terms listed.
