What we're about

This is a group for anyone who likes to laugh, have fun with a partner, and remembers what its like to be a little kid again! This has to be the easiest sport to learn on the planet earth. PICKLEBALL is a cross between tennis, ping pong, and badminton. It can be played indoors and out. You can play singles or doubles. Singles is better exercise, but not nearly as much fun. It is easier than tennis, because you serve underhand. It moves fast like ping pong. You play with a wiffleball and unlike tennis, you don't have to waste as much time chasing the balls all over the court. It is played on a court the same size as a badminton court. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to try it. The first time I played, I laughed the entire time. We will provide all of the equipment necessary, and will even help set up Events and Demonstrations close to you. If you like it, you can eventually buy your own paddle. It is already very popular in Seattle, Palm Desert, San Diego County, Arizona, and Florida. It is played in over 1800 locations nationally.

There are two courts available for Pickleball at Venice Beach. Instruction and extra paddles are no longer available unfortunately as our Meetup Founder is unable to come to this location. See the Santa Monica location which has more courts and the potential for instruction for newcomers.

Wednesday Pickleball Outside from 7:00am to Noon on the Tennis Courts

We have 4 to 8 Pickleball Courts on two of the four tennis courts on Wednesday. Santa Monica Recreation added 4 more sets of permanent lines in April because of the high demand we have on the weekend. Equipment - paddles, balls, nets etc. - will be provided, and all ages and skill levels welcome. Santa Monica residents pay $2.00, and non-residents pay $4.00. This fee was increased to $2.00 when the additional 8 courts were put into service. The times of play may change, so please check this meetup group site on a regular basis. I am planning to distribute a survey to find out what would be the best time for our members to attend after we expand to 16 courts. If you give me your email address, I can get this sent to you. If you already know your availability on weekends and weekdays, you can text it to[masked] or email me at [masked] The parking lot entrance is on the east side of 14th St just north of Olympic Blvd. *****There is a smaller alternate Parking Lot just north of the Tennis Courts that is also free (3 hour maximum) for Memorial Park Patrons only. You enter it also from 14th. There are parking meters on 14th Street, but these spaces are free on Sundays. The Expo Line is now up and running. There is a station at 17th and Colorado. You can bring your bike on the Expo Line. There is also a Santa Monica Bus that stops at 14th and Colorado. There are discounted fares on the bus and expo line if you are 60 or over.
