Newcomers Super Bowl Hike to Native Oak Canyon in Hacienda Heights

Details

You don't need to spend all Super Bowl Sunday on the couch. Come out and burn some calories before the big feast.

For a few moments, you will forget that you are surrounded by civilization on this 4 mile, 700 ft elev gain hike to one of the best kept secrets of east Los Angeles County. And we'll end with plenty of time to make the kickoff.

We travel up a clear trail to great views of the San Gabriel Mountains to the north. After walking along a ridgeline where panoramic views of the nearby developments are present, we then decend through a lush canyon filled with native oak trees. It's one of the prettiest spots in LA County (my opinion).

This is an interesting area that was once not so beautiful. An old landfill is nearby, that is now being developed into trails for public use. And you can still find plenty of antennas on the ridge. But the hills here offer a pleasant walking opportunity and surprising relaxation spots for those willing to explore.

Bring: 1 liter of water, comfortable shoes, hat/sun protection, snacks and a good attitude.

Rain 2 days before event cancels due to Puente Hills policy.
