Sturtevant Falls via Upper Winter Creek

Details

The recent rains have brought a lot of water to our local mountains and the waterfalls are at their best. Let's go to Sturtevant Falls, one of the iconic waterfalls of the San Gabriel Mountains. We will return via the Upper Winter Creek and Hoeggee's Camp.

Distance: 7 mile loop through Sanita Anita Historical Canyon
Hike Features: 1,000 feet of elevation gain
This is a moderate hike that ascends up a deep cut canyon, through which Winter Creek flows on its way to merge with Santa Anita Creek. The floor of the canyon is covered with a lush ivy like ground cover, a multitude of trees, large rock faces, and a lovely babling creek. Along Winter creek you will see a few cabins built in the 30's and a series of Lincoln Log like check dams.

Parking is at a premium at Chantry Flat. Carpool and arrive early.

Display your Adventure Pass or National Park Pass.

Bring water, snacks and a light lunch. Wear sturdy shoes and carry your 10 essentials.
