Guildford - Surrey Data Platform Group - 9th March

Details
"3 ways to bring Power BI under Source Control", "Stop waiting to explore your data: use Azure Data Explorer!" & "Simplify your ETL with Databricks Delta Lake"
Come along and join us for the Guildford Surrey Data Platform Group meetup with not just 2 but 3 great sessions planned! And of course, drinks and buffet food will be provided by us!
Details:
We'll be following the usual agenda - a quick update about the group, general announcements and PASS news. Followed by the three sessions from our guest speakers, Craig Porteous, Jason Bonello & Piotr Mucha!
This month we are trialing our first remote session! The only change will be having Craig Porteous joining us remotely over Teams for our first talk of the night, we are doing this to try and increase inclusion of speakers who may struggle to join us in person. If you are aware of anyone looking to talk at a user group but struggling with logistics then please put us in touch!
Session 1 (remote session): 3 ways to bring Power BI under Source Control - Craig Porteous
People love creating content in Power BI but how do we track changes or backup all these new reports? We’ll look at 3 different ways to bring your reports under source control and how to automate the process using Microsoft Flow and PowerShell.
Session 2: Stop waiting to explore your data: use Azure Data Explorer! - Jason Bonello
Many organisations have trouble when attempting real-time analysis on large volumes of data. The very nature of real-time information means it is in its raw form, usually streamed in from various data sources and meaningful analysis or pattern identification often cannot be initiated until after the ETL/ELT process completed. However, by exploiting the power of Azure Data Explorer, insights can be derived directly from the raw, real-time data using a simple query language.
In this session, we are going to see how we can address the problem of real-time analysis using Azure Data Explorer and explore this solution in a demo! We will see how Azure Data Explorer allows the exploration of fast-flowing and rapidly changing data as it is streamed into a data consumer, before any transformations take place!
Whether you are streaming data from applications, IoT devices or even websites – see how Azure Data Explorer could help you get the insights you need in seconds!
Session 3: Simplify your ETL with Databricks Delta Lake - Piotr Mucha
In this session we will showcase how Delta Lake works and how easily your modern data engineering pipelines can benefit from its implementation. This workshop would be of interest to anyone that deals with big data or creates modern data warehouse solutions and would like to learn the ways to solve common data lake challenges
Would be great to see you there, and, as always, get in touch if you'd like to speak at an upcoming event whether in-person or remotely!
