What we're about

Welcome to all you fun lovin' social peeps!

To keep up with the times, our group name may have changed but the acronym and group charter remain the same. We are an eclectic social group who get together for conversation and comraderie with people close to our own age. The group is geared primarily towards the Baby Boomers and designed to meet and to get together with others exploring different exciting and fun community, social, and musical events available to us in and around Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We do breakfast, lunch and dinners, go to movies, art events, sporting events, wine tastings, and theatre, go on vacations, clubbing, hold cooking classes, plan hikes, exercise, and the list goes on and on. We are definitely more than just a foodies group though we do love to eat and especially at a bargain!

We welcome all newcomers to experience amazing fun adventures. Please note, though, that we reserve the right to limit the number of new members into the group to those that know either the leadership organizers or fellow active members to increase the enjoyment and participation in events for all our existing members. Please upload a picture, include your name, and let us know what you like to do for fun and you might actually see it scheduled as an event.

Rooftop Dinner at Margot in Culver City

Margot is the work of IB Hospitality’s Rohan Talwar, a name (until now) most closely associated with international projects and the neighborhood favorite Norah in West Hollywood. With a market-driven menu inspired by Coastal Mediterranean cuisine of Spain and Italy, regional wines and craft cocktails, Margot offers an elegant dining experience. Situated at the stunning rooftop of PLATFORM in Culver City, Margot’s indoor and outdoor spaces include 360 degree views of the city, ample natural light and a variety of different dining experiences. Spring for a dozen oysters and a Bella Pera spritz—grand poppy amaro, vermouth, pear brandy, cardamom, and cava. Executive Chef Michael Williams' has kept things classic with an internationally-influenced approach with local California ingredients and produce and offering a prominent raw bar menu, a large selection of handmade pastas (such as culurgiones, a traditional Sardinian potato-filled pasta), grilled meats, seafood and creative seasonal vegetable dishes PLEASE BRING CASH TO HELP MAKE THE SETTLEMENT OF THE BILL EASIER. I would plan on $60-70 per person depending upon what and how much you order, plus tax and tip. Please sign up IF AND ONLY IF you do plan on attending this event. SENSE has not implemented a deposit system to reserve an event spot as many other groups have and will if we get "No shows" to the events. Update your RSVP regularly if your plans change. If you cancel 48 hours or less prior to the event, you will be considered a "No Show". Don't be a "No Show" or Last Minute Cancellation which isn't cool and keep us from implementing a "deposit " system and prevent those on the Wait List to attend!! Culver City never looked so tasty with a view. Hope you can join us and see!

Dinner at Tar & Roses, Santa Monica

Tar & Roses

Former "The Next Iron Chef" contestant in 2010 and Los Angeles native, Andrew Kirschner (Wilshire Restaurant, Joe's, Table 8, Chadwick) enduring and highly lauded flagship restaurant creates a rustic menu of wood-fire grilled specialties at his Santa Monica establishment. The menu is seasonal. But the popped corn and the oxtail dumplings are definitely still on the menu. But most everything that comes out of that wood-fired oven is worth trying. Expect duck breast, octopus skewers with salsa verde, and assorted small plates. The braised lamb belly is the most popular, swimming in its own juices and topped with a minty apple chutney, is as rich and fatty as it sounds but also warming and delicious as are the skate wing and roasted snap peas. Because the menu is more known for their small plates, it would be advantageous for us to do family style for many or all of the menu items. They do also offer big plates for those that want their own entree, but I would recommend sharing the many small plate items to sample the bold and lusty flavors of their rustic wood-fire plates. Here's a link to their latest menu: https://www.tarandroses.com/dinner Please bring CASH to make bill settlement easier. PLEASE RSVP ONLY IF YOU ARE AVAILABLE AND PLAN ON ATTENDING. If you are not flexible enough in participate in "family style" dining to some extent with your fellow diners so we have the opportunity to better sample their menu, I would not recommend attending this specific event. No shows are not cool for those that want to attend and can't. WARNING: If you have been a frequent no-show (and you know who you are) and you RSVP "Yes", I will email you to confirm your attendance within a certain time frame or you will automatically be changed to "Wait List" with no further discussion. Hope you can join me at this casual New American and globally-inspired small plates and entrees that would impress anyone visiting from out of town.

Lunch at Chong Qing Special Noodles in San Gabriel

Chong Qing Special Noodles重慶特色小麵

What happens when a chef at a fairly well regarded restaurant. Best Noodle House, decides to go out on his own? You get Chongqing Special Noodles. Chongqing Special Noodles has an extensive menu that includes cold apps, specialty noodles, hand pulled noodles, dumplings and some other Sichuan dishes. The chef serves up spicy Chongqing-style dishes, including various local noodles, the wonderful fried chicken cubes (listed as Gele Mountain Style Fried Chicken) and mouth water chicken (listed as Cold Steamed Chicken with Hot Sauce). Curiously, the menu also features a few Shaanxi-style items, like biang biang noodles. WARNING: Szechuan (or Sichuan) food is very hot and very spicy. If you are not inclined to eat hot and spicy foods where your taste buds can experience searing and numbing heat, I would stay away from this event! Please note that this event will be family-style dining where we will split the bill evenly among the attendees. Most dishes will have meat or shrimp and on the spicy hot side so if you are a strict vegetarian or vegan or don't care for hot and spicy food, this event may not be very cost effective for you. **NEW RULE** Also, plan on eating your food at the event . . . there is no making a "to-go" plate as you eat and take your unfair share. If you feel you can't eat as much as you'd like during the event to make it worthwhile, then DO NOT SIGN UP for this event. Please bring CASH to make bill settlement easier. Cost per person is estimated at $25 each. Hope you can join us for another fun adventure in the SGV.
