Russell Jurney, author of Agile Data Science, will present about rapidly prototyping analytics applications using the Hadoop stack to return to agility in light of the ever deepening analytics stack. The presentation uses Hadoop, Pig, NoSQL stores and lightweight web frameworks to rapidly connect end-users to real insights. Topics covered include writing User Defined Functions in Pig and publishing insights mined on Hadoop to NoSQL stores like MongoDB, HBase, and Cassandra, and using Python, Ruby, JRuby and Node.js to present data mined on Hadoop in a web browser.

Russell Jurney cut his data teeth in casino gaming, building web apps to analyze the performance of slot machines in the US and Mexico. After dabbling in entrepreneurship, interactive media and journalism, he moved to silicon valley to build analytics applications at scale at Ning and LinkedIn. He lives on the ocean in Pacifica, California with his wife Kate and two fuzzy dogs.
